Mercer County Sheriff’s Department’s move to new building progressing gradually

PRINCETON, WV (WOAY) – The Mercer County Commission is steadily working on getting the sheriff’s office a standalone building.

They are currently getting authorization to finish electrical work in the new building which will be located just down the street from the courthouse. For years the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office has been in the basement of the courthouse, and County Commissioner Greg Puckett says a standalone building will be a huge improvement for them.

“We were able to move our day report center down to another free-standing facility and their facility is now going to be the home of our sheriff’s office. For many years, our sheriff’s been in the basement of our courthouse and we want to make sure that they have a free-standing facility in which to be more responsive to the community,” Puckett said.

The county expects the electrical work to be finished within the next few weeks.
