Law enforcement to ramp up patrols ahead of Memorial Day weekend

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – Memorial Day is looming, and state law enforcement is ramping up ahead of the holiday.

The West Virginia State Police are conducting targeted traffic enforcement on the West Virginia Turnpike from now until May 28.

Troopers will be looking for distracted and impaired drivers and helping people who break down.

And on the waterways, the division of natural resources is ramping up its water patrols.

Officers will be ensuring that boaters are following life jacket laws and are not boating while impaired.

Triple A is forecasting more than 200,000 West Virginians on the roads this weekend. The Turnpike Authority is forecasting 145,00 drivers on the turnpike.
