Jarret Doege to start season opener for WVU

WOAY – West Virginia head football coach Neal Brown announced on his radio show Thursday that Jarret Doege will start at quarterback when the Mountaineers play Eastern Kentucky on September 12.

Doege, who is originally from Lubbock, Texas and transferred to WVU in 2019 from Bowling Green, started the final three games for the Mountaineers last season. He played in four total games, throwing for 818 yards and seven touchdowns.

Austin Kendall, who started the first nine games for WVU in 2019, will begin 2020 as the backup quarterback. Having transferred from Oklahoma prior to that season, Kendall threw for 1,989 yards, with 12 touchdowns with 10 interceptions.

Doege went 2-1 as a starter for the Mountaineers, as they won at Kansas State and TCU. He threw for 307 yards and a touchdown in a home loss to Oklahoma State.

West Virginia’s season opener vs. Eastern Kentucky is scheduled for noon on September 12. The game will be closed to the general public.
