Independence, Greenbrier East Win Regional Titles

WOAY – The WVSSAC wrestling regionals were held Saturday across West Virginia, with Independence and Greenbrier East both claiming regional titles in Raleigh County.

The Patriots won Class AA/A Region 3, as 14 wrestlers qualified for the state tournament. Greenbrier West was the top Class A school, finishing second overall. Liberty and Oak Hill were also in the top five of the team standings, with Shady Spring, PikeView, and Fayetteville also placing in the top 10.

Greenbrier East is the Class AAA Region 3 champion for a second straight year, with all their wrestlers qualifying for states. Woodrow Wilson finished fourth in the team standings – 10 Flying Eagles qualified for states – while Princeton placed sixth.

The wrestling state tournament begins February 22 in Huntington.
