Interim Greenbrier County School superintendent Doug Clemons has released a statement today, calling the incident “repulsive.” He also said the school has hired a private investigator and handwriting analyst to discover who the perpetrators were.
Full details about the investigation are shielded by privacy laws, but the school board will get an update on April 16.
He said the school will hold sessions with an outside consultant focused on principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
School staff will participate in a session on April 22. Students will participate on April 23.
The school has also implemented a new support group for girls and will potentially hire an additional mental health counselor.
Clemons asked parents for their help.
“It takes real effort from all community members to combat racism and any form of bullying. We encourage parents to speak to their children about not using racist language and refraining from any type of bullying,” he said.
