Oak Hill, WV (WOAY-TV): What normally is a small creek or stream turned into a raging river thanks to two rounds of rain on Monday.
Chief Meteorologist Chad Merrill reports:
Backyards in low lying spots turned into swimming pools….roads flooded in poor drainage spots and raging creeks threatening properties….this was the scene in Oak Hill Monday night.
Where water has receded, rocks and debris make for a bumpy ride on secondary roads.
This all due to two rounds of rain that doppler radar indicated produced one quarter to one half inch but certainly when observations are received, the numbers will be higher. Today’s rain follows the soaking July trend… with rainfall 1.40 inches above average.
This is a call to action that even though Flood Alerts are not in effect for Fayette County, with additional rain expected this week, we are certain to see more standing water and flooded back yards.
The new threat emerging overnight…. more standing water from additional rain and dense fog will limit visibility, making it difficult to see flooded roads.
