ATHENS (WOAY) – Concord is back with their second annual Women’s Empowerment Conference. The conference is hosted by the Tri-Sigma Sorority and concords women and gender studies program.
Speakers this year include Dr. Pridgen, Taylor Brown, Nicole Ramsey, Angie Hill, as well as many others. But with this particular event spearheaded by the tri sigma sorority, the inspiration was entirely local.
“We created this conference as a way to reach out to the girls on our campus who maybe don’t know where to go with their career and maybe feel like they are the underdog in a situation to let them know that women are just as powerful in today’s generation as men,” Katherine Webb, Tri-Sigma Chapter President said.
With eight new speakers spreading that message in this years conference, those who are behind the scenes are excited to see what is to come
Events like this are not possible without the help and support of many people. Those who are putting the event on say that this is the combined work of over twenty people.
Even if you do not agree with the stereotypical feminist movement, those who are making that push ask to just give them a chance
“This is not the feminism from our parents and grandparents. This is today’s feminism and it’s new and I think there is a lot that we can learn and improve,” Katie Nutter-Pridgen, the Women and Gender Studies director said.
