Charges dropped against former Monroe County Sheriff following resignation

Monroe County, WV (WOAY)- The charges against former Monroe County Sheriff Jeffrey Jones have been dismissed following his decision to resign and not seek reelection.

Jones resigned on March 18.

The county commission unanimously voted to appoint retired state trooper Michael Miller as interim sheriff until a permanent one is elected.

Jones first came under controversy last year for his alleged interference in the investigation of a Monroe County deputy’s alleged solicitation of nude pictures from a minor.

West Virginia State Police (WVSP) arrested Jones for failure to report the crime as a mandated reporter, obstruction, and deception of the Civil Service Commission.

WVSP reports he also refused to comply with a subpoena.

Authorities arrested the deputy in question, Evan Paul Blankenship, after discovering multiple nude pictures of underage girls in his possession.
