Bramwell firefighter dead following ATV accident

Bramwell, WV (WOAY) – A Mercer County volunteer firefighter has passed away following an ATV accident on July 11.

Authorities report two Bramwell Volunteer Fire Department members were examining previous accident scenes on a side-by-side when the vehicle began to roll toward them after they got out.

They were dragged over a hill while trying to stop the vehicle, and the side-by-side rolled multiple times.

One firefighter died following transport to a Charleston Hospital; the other was released after treatment.

Authorities report the victim was 19-year-old James “Spot” Cleary Jr., who was volunteering alongside his father, James Cleary Sr., who was identified as the other person injured in the incident.

A gofundme has been set up to support the family with travel, food, and medical expenses.
