Princeton Rescue Squad opens new substation closer to I-77

PRINCETON, WV (WOAY) – The Princeton Rescue Squad is opening a new substation.

The new station is their closest one to Interstate 77. The close proximity will let them get to accidents on the highway in a much shorter time span now.

According to the County Commission, first responders used to have to drive through downtown Princeton just to get to the highway, now they’ll be much closer and will be able to prevent future fatalities.

“One of the key components of the project was to put emergency responders closer to I-77. In 2017, we had several fatalities up on 77, just three or four miles away,” Bill Archer said.

The new substation is part of the newly repurposed forestry station on Mercer Springs Road.
