City of Bluefield uses electronic billboard to congratulate graduating seniors

BLUEFIELD, WV (WOAY) – The city is honoring the graduating class of Bluefield High School by putting them on a billboard.

The billboard shows the yearbook photo of each class member, as well as general PSAs regarding staying healthy during the pandemic. City Ambassador Marie Blackwell says the idea was to show appreciation for the seniors and congratulate them on their achievement.

“They work 12 years for this day and now they don’t have it on account of COVID-19. So, anyway we can recognize them and show our appreciation for them, because they are the future,” Blackwell said.

The Billboard is owned by a private entity, and did not charge the city to display the photos.
