Oak Hill, WV (WOAY-TV): An expanding heat ridge across the Southeast with two low pressure systems (one a cold front) will be the catalyst for an increasing severe weather risk in our region this weekend.

TONIGHT INTO MIDDAY SATURDAY: Thunderstorms through the remainder of today will stay confined east of the Alleghenies along I-81. Our area will remain dry and hot.
SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING: Low pressure responsible for severe weather in the Upper Midwest today will push east. There is a 60-percent risk for severe thunderstorms to develop along I-79 in West Virginia and push through our region between 5-10 p.m. Any thunderstorms have a 60-percent likelihood of producing damaging winds and rain heavy enough to produce flash flooding. The storm threat will fade quickly after 10 p.m. Saturday.
SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING: Patchy fog is expected at daybreak on Sunday. IF Saturday’s storms DO NOT come to fruition, there is a 70-percent likelihood of severe weather on Sunday afternoon and evening between 5-10 p.m. Damaging wind gusts are the main threat. IF Saturday’s storms occur, there is a 30-percent probability for damaging thunderstorms Sunday afternoon and evening.
Regardless of Saturday’s outcome, we have a 70-percent chance to see a second round of showers and perhaps lightning and thunder, but the wind gust and severe weather potential is MUCH LESS on Sunday IF Saturday’s storms overperform. Therefore, we don’t expect two days of severe weather; Sunday has the best chance for damaging wind potential. The flash flooding threat on Sunday evening is HIGH regardless of Saturday’s outcome.
FOURTH OF JULY OUTLOOK: We expect following Sunday’s frontal passage that early next week will be dry and picnics, barbecues and fireworks will go on without a hitch on Independence Day! Temperatures will be very close to seasonal averages.
