Oak Hill, WV (WOAY-TV): A diffuse front will spark a few thunderstorms along the northern flank of Route 19 this evening, otherwise, the sky will clear later tonight.
Chief Meteorologist Chad Merrill’s latest forecast:
FRIDAY: Heat indices near 100 degrees in McDowell and Wyoming County between Noon-5 p.m. where a Heat Advisory is in effect for Friday. Elsewhere, heat indices will hit 94 degrees with air temperatures reaching 90 degrees. A shower or thunderstorm could pop up in 20% of the region between 5-8 p.m. Any rain would last 5-10 minutes.
WEEKEND: A cold front will trigger showers and thunderstorms after 6 p.m. on Saturday into the early hours of Sunday. Heavy rain will trigger localized flash flooding and the leading edge of the storms will contain wind gusts 35-40 mph. Following one more day of 90-degree temperatures on Saturday, Sunday will be cooler and turn less humid in the evening.
NEXT WEEK: Canadian high pressure will ensure temperatures return to near to slightly below average readings with highs near 80 degrees (low 70s in northern Pocahontas County) and morning low temperatures are on the comfortable side with 50s. An approaching front Thursday could trigger a shower or storm late in the day, otherwise, Monday through Wednesday will be dry and mostly sunny.
