Oak Hill, WV (WOAY-TV): A diffuse frontal system responsible for a rash of severe weather in Kentucky and Ohio is heading into our region later tonight.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been posted for the Route 19 corridor through Midnight.
Here are the details:
6 p.m.-9 p.m. tonight: Dry and warm
9 p.m. to Midnight tonight: Thunderstorms with plentiful lightning, heavy downpours and wind gusts 40-45 mph will push across the Route 19 corridor. Within the core of the storms, a handful of power outages are likely. The gusty part of the storms will occur in about 30-percent of the region, but lightning and heavy rain coverage will likely be about 65-percent. We don’t expect a derecho or squall line to develop that would produce widespread power outages.
The gusty nature of the storms will weaken as they push into the Greenbrier Valley, but still lightning and heavy rain are expected EAST of Route 19 after 10 p.m.
Midnight to 6 a.m. Monday: Occasional rumbles and briefly heavy rain are expected. No severe weather (gusty winds) is expected, but combined with earlier rainfall, ponding of water on roadways will occur. Also watch out for patchy, dense fog.
