Likely Tropical Storm Ophelia Promises Soggy Weekend

Oak Hill, WV (WOAY-TV): High pressure will ensure dry weather continues through our slate of Friday night high school football games, then rain arrives for the weekend.

Chief Meteorologist Chad Merrill’s latest forecast:

A developing low pressure off the Florida/Carolina coast will gain tropical characteristics and become Tropical Storm Ophelia on Friday. It will make landfall along the North Carolina/Virginia border and slide up I-95.

On its western flank, the easterly breeze will increase Friday evening and sky will fill with clouds locally. Rain is expected after 11 a.m. Saturday to the pre-dawn of Sunday. Amounts will range from near 1 inch along the ridgetops east of the Greenbrier Valley to 0.25-.0.50″ along Route 19. Temperatures will stay in the 60s with 50s above 3,000 feet.

Early next week will bring a return to a bit of sunshine before a threat for showers arrives by midweek from a Midwest system.
