Oak Hill, WV (WOAY) – Attorney General Patrick Morrisey encourages consumers to be informed about return policies when buying holiday gifts this season.
Purchase and gift receipts speed up the return process and guarantee the person you give the gift to gets the total purchase value if they need to return it.
Some retailers only offer in-store credit or gift cards for returns without a receipt.
Also, several stores have online and brick-and-mortar stores, meaning sometimes consumers will only be able to return online purchases to the online store, leaving them responsible for shipping fees.
Morrisey advises shoppers to beware of all sales final policies.
While retailers must exchange or refund money for defective items, returns of size and preference may be denied.
Extra helpful tips to consider when holiday shopping include knowing the return and exchange deadline since some are extended for holiday purchases, not opening original packaging or removing tags, and asking for a store’s return policy if it is not in a conspicuous area.
