West Virginia Emergency Management with tips to keep your Thanksgiving safe

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) State officials are taking steps to ensure people are safe this holiday season.. whether that means additional state troopers on highways or highway crews preparing to treat roads.

The West Virginia Emergency Management Division has some tips to make this Thanksgiving holiday enjoyable and safe for everyone:

Pay attention to your stove when you are cooking. Keep flammable items away from the burners; always have a fire extinguisher handy.

Make sure you know what allergies your guests have.

Keep food away from pets – many popular foods can be dangerous for dogs and cats- and consider setting aside a quiet place in your home for your pets in case they get overwhelmed by the extra noise and people.

And if on the roads, make sure that your car maintenance is up to date, bring warm clothing, and take your time on slippery roads.
