Oak Hill, WV (WOAY-TV): Stubborn low pressure stalled over the eastern Tennessee Valley will be the culprit for period of heavy rain this week. Flooding will occur in spots overnight Tuesday into midday Wednesday.
Chief Meteorologist Chad Merrill’s latest forecast:
THROUGH WEDNESDAY: Expect occasional showers, best chance this evening and then again after 5 p.m. Tuesday through Noon Wednesday. The best dynamics will line up to produce poor drainage and small stream flooding overnight Tuesday (best chance south of I-64 and along and east of Route 219).
Flood Watches posted in northwest North Carolina and southwest Virginia (east of Tazewell county) will likely get expanded into Tazewell County into the southern part of our region (south of I-64). Remember when approaching a flooded road to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”
WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY: The low pressure will push north into Pennsylvania. More afternoon and evening showers are expected, with additional flooding likely due to saturated soil (best chance south of I-64).
THIS WEEKEND: Morning showers are likely Saturday before the system finally pushes east of our region. Sunday will be dry and both days will see a return to near average temperatures (near 80 degrees).

ATLANTIC TROPICAL NEWS: Tropical Depression #3 will become Tropical Storm Bret and perhaps a hurricane as it pushes towards the Caribbean. We don’t see a risk for rain from this system through at least early next week.
A separate low pressure in its wake (closer to the African coast) will likely become a named storm later this week. It will not impact our region through at least the middle of next week.
