Oak Hill, WV (WOAY-TV): After a hot day, a low pressure will ignite thunderstorms with heavy rain and potential for gusty winds on Thursday.
Chief Meteorologist Chad Merrill’s forecast:
TONIGHT: Clear skies with patchy fog. Not as comfortable as the past few nights.
THURSDAY: Sunny skies through mid-afternoon, then showers and thunderstorms will develop, first isolated in nature, and then more widespread late in the evening. Isolated gusty winds up to 35 mph but likely numerous heavy downpours that will initiate flash flooding. The spots most likely to see flooding include western Nicholas, Fayette and Raleigh County given the 2-3 inches of rain that saturated soil on Sunday. The time frame most likely to see thunderstorms is 6-10 p.m.
FRIDAY: Rain will taper off between Midnight and 3 a.m. and patchy fog will develop. Sunshine will emerge after 9 a.m. and the sky will turn partly cloudy.
WEEKEND: The best chance for late afternoon showers and storms is Saturday. A few showers are possible Sunday. The air will be quite humid.
EARLY NEXT WEEK: A frontal system will likely produce showers late Monday evening with a renewed threat on Tuesday. Dew points will drop a few degrees Tuesday, so it won’t be as humid.
