WATCH: Crews implode span of bridge in Fairmont

Construction on I-79 is continuing as crews work on a massive lane-widening project.

Crews imploded the span of the northbound bridge across the Tygart River with a controlled explosion.

The southbound span was imploded in March, and crews can now finish the new bridge across the river.

It’s part of a larger project that will widen the interstate to six lanes from Harrison County almost to the Pennsylvania state line.

The project costs 72.5 million dollars. It’ll be completed by the summer of 2025, according to projections.
