Two West Virginia Troopers shot while serving arrest warrant in Martinsburg

Martinsburg, WV (WOAY) – Two West Virginia troopers are in stable condition after being shot while serving an arrest warrant. 

According to a West Virginia State Police press release, troopers A.A. Bean and C.D. Spessert arrived at 117 Connell Street in Martinsburg to serve an arrest warrant for 60-year-old Tobias Ganey. 

Troopers spoke with Ganey for an extended period of time, but he refused to open the door or come out of his residence. 

When Bean and Spessert entered the home to arrest him, Ganey fired a handgun, and the troopers returned fire. 

During the exchange, Bean was struck four times, Spessert was shot once, and Ganey was pronounced dead on the scene. 

The troopers were transported to a medical facility for treatment, with Bean undergoing surgery for his wounds and Spessert undergoing observation. 

The West Virginia State Police are investigating the incident.
