FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – Fayette County Litter Control collects old car and truck tires in the Walmart parking lot.
Litter control officer Tommy Harris says the collection events keep tires from being discarded into waterways or on the side of roads. Each person can drop off up to 10 tires that are off the rim. Once the trailer of tires fills up, they’re taken to get a second life.
“A contractor comes and picks them up [and] the state takes care of the bill,’ says Harris. “They use them in playgrounds, cut them up to use them in playgrounds and to make stuff out of them. They even tried them in roads in Florida, but there’s so much heat down there, they wouldn’t hold up.”
Collections happen on the third Wednesday of every month in the Fayetteville Walmart parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
