Thousands Remain in The Dark Following Friday’s Storms

Oak Hill, WV (WOAY-TV): Friday’s line of storms produced widespread damage and thousands in each of our counties remain in the dark today.

Power companies are telling folks electricity won’t be restored until late Sunday following Friday’s storms. At least 500 customers are without power in all nine counties we serve, stretching from Pocahontas to Mercer County. Greenbrier County was hit hardest with 4,189 people still without power as of Saturday afternoon. Tazewell County has the fewest outages with 183 folks in the dark as of Saturday afternoon.

Peak wind gusts across the region reached 45-50 mph as the storms pushed through. One final round of storms is likely this afternoon, although only isolated wind damage is expected. Timing of the storms will be 2-5 p.m. Cooler, less humid air and a quiet stretch of weather is expected Sunday through midweek.
