Oak Hill, WV (WOAY-TV): A few raindrops earlier today were a precursor to a steady rain on Friday.
LATEST BRUSH FIRE STATUS:
Steep Valley Fire: 1,055 acres burned; no containment yet
Straight Fork 1&2 Fires: 240 acres burned; no status update on containment
Cinderella Hollow & Buffalo Mountain Fires: No available data
Neely Branch Fire: 500 acres burned; no status update on containment
FIRE FORECAST UPDATE:
Friday: Fires will be suppressed from light rain. This only means the few tenths of rain and higher humidity will keep the fires from spreading. They will still be burning in the spots where they are currently located, but the flames will be suppressed under the brush and won’t be visible.
This weekend: High pressure returns with cooler and drier weather. The dry weather will likely allow the flames in several spots to become visible again. Minimal spreading of the brush fires is expected thanks to light wind and higher humidity (thanks to the cooler weather).
AIR QUALITY FORECAST:
Friday: Improvement to moderate air quality.
Weekend: Likely becoming unhealthy for sensitive groups each morning near the brush fires. Those who suffer from asthma or lung disease and live near these brush fires should remain indoors as much as possible in the morning each day.
