Motorcycles roared down I-64 on Thursday, carrying an American flag symbolizing something deeper.
The Patriots Tour- put on by the Nation of Patriots- stopped in Princeton yesterday on the way to Pikeville, Kentucky.
The Nation of Patriots has raised money for those who served their country for fourteen years. The Patriot Tour takes one flag through all 50 states in 115 days.
David Bishop is a flag bearer for the Nation of Patriots and carried it to its destination in Pikeville, Kentucky.
“We get to fly this flag from state to state, and it travels all 50 states, and none of the money that’s raised goes to operating expenses,” Bishop said.
For those involved, it’s a way to honor our veterans.
“To me, it just means a great to support our veterans. You know, they gave all this. As they say, some gave some, and some gave all to protect us and have the freedoms that we do in this country,” Scott Janssen, a designated rider for the tour, said.
The tradition carries a somber note, always remembering those who have been lost.
“Unfortunately, some people think it’s a funeral procession, and they stop. But, you know, that’s okay. They show their respect for the flag,” Bishop said.
No matter their background, everyone is touched personally by the tour.
“It’s humbling to a lot of people and especially the veterans, that you’re somebody out there raising money for them. We get a lot of respect when we fly this flag down the highway. A lot of people, they wave,” Bishop said.
“It’s a deeply personal feeling. It gives me a great respect for the flag and for this country,” Janssen.
