Senator Shelley Moore Capito nominates five local students to military academies

Senator Shelley Moore Capito has nominated 29 high school students in West Virginia for the U.S. Military, Naval, Air Force, and Merchant Marine Academies.

Those students were chosen based on their applications and personal interviews with Senator Capito.

Five of the students are from our viewing area. Here are their names and the academies they will attend.

  • Hugh Elijah Campbell, Mercer County, U.S. Air Force Academy
  • Olivia Joe Honaker, Fayette County, U.S. Air Force Academy and U.S. Military Academy
  • Shane Christopher Arthur, Monroe County, U.S. Military Academy
  • Josiah Thomas Richardson, Mercer County, U.S. Military Academy
  • Addison Grace Eldridge, Mercer County, U.S. Naval Academy and U.S. Air Force Academy

A nomination from an official source in the government is a requirement for all military academies except for the Coast Guard Academy.

“Each year, I have the honor of nominating young West Virginians for admissions to our nation’s prestigious military service academies. This year, I hosted four Academy Day events across West Virginia and reviewed a number of impressive applications,” Capito said. “These students truly represent our best and brightest, and I am confident in their ability to become the next generation of leaders in our nation.”
