OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – An Oak Hill church is hosting a lunch for first responders to show their appreciation.
As a way to say thank you, this Friday, Pastor Deb Minor and her congregation at Church of God of Prophecy are providing first responders with free meals.
“All police officers, firefighters, ems, paramedics, even the 911 center operators, anybody working as a first responder in any way can come and pick up a free lunch. It’s our way of saying thank you,” said Minor.
For Deb, showing her appreciation for first responders hits home. Deb says she knows how hard first responders work because her daughter is one.
“My daughter is an EMS, so I know from first hand what they’re going out into… and all of them,” said Minor. “I know from her what she faces daily, but all of them are going out. But all of them are going out, and they’re facing right on a daily basis. This group is dead in it.”
The event was not only put together by church members. Deb says she also got help from a local Dairy Queen.
“We’re going to have hot dogs with chili and coleslaw and all the works, and those are being donated by Dairy Queen in Fayetteville, and we’re thanking them for that. We will have chips, soda, and water. We just want people to come in and feel welcome and feel the presence of the lord,” said Minor.
The luncheon will be held Friday, July 24th, at Church of God of Prophecy in Oak Hill at 11 am.
