It’s the 21st annual community Thanksgiving meal that means a lot to individuals and families throughout Fayette County and surrounding areas. They have 2,904 meal requests.
“Anyone who did not get to place an order before Oct. 31 there will be a limited number of meals available at each of our distribution sites starting at 10:30 [Thanksgiving] morning,” said meal coordinator Lesley Taylor. “They are first-come, first-served.”
It’s that time of year again, and the Lewis Foundation Community Center pulled out all the stops to make sure the community has a very happy Thanksgiving.
“Folks will pull up here in front of the Lewis Christian Community Center, someone will walk out to their car, get their name, come in, mark them off the list, and carry their meals back to them,” Taylor said.
If you missed the deadline…
“Please be here at 10:30 to make sure that you’re in line to get a meal,” said the meal coordinator. “We would love to provide you a meal and we will provide meals until our food is completely depleted.”
According to Lesley, they could not do this without the volunteers, our business community, the local churches, civic organizations, high school students who get their community service credits. It’s a true collaborative effort — everyone is there to make sure the meal is accomplished.
“While we started our cooking today, we actually started fundraising for this months ago,” Taylor said to pull off a meal of this size takes a lot of resources. “So we start early in the year so we’ll be able to do this.”
