Greenbrier East student selected to US Senate Youth Program

A Greenbrier East High School student is headed to Washington, D.C. to represent the state as a delegate in the United States Senate Youth Program.

Peyton Barker is the student body president at Greenbrier East High School and is the student representative for the Greenbrier County Board of Education. She plans to study mechanical engineering after she graduates high school.

She joins Bryson Riggleman from Petersburg High School in Grant County as delegates from West Virginia. They are both getting a $10,000 college scholarship and will spend a week in Washington, DC with senators Joe Manchin and Shelley Moore Capito in March.

These students embody what it means to be dedicated to personal, professional and academic development. Each of them is an active member of their school and local community, and they prioritize selfless service to others,” State Superintendent of Schools Michele L. Blatt said. “They have shown exceptional work, and we are fortunate to have them represent the Mountain State at the national level.
