Oak Hill, WV (WOAY-TV): Temperatures weren’t too bad locally, but it was a different story when you average the temperature across the globe.
July was a sizzling month on the Earth. As a matter of fact, the average global temperature for the first time ever was two degrees above average (56.9 degrees Fahrenheit) and it was the hottest month ever recorded.
July is the fourth consecutive month for the global ocean temperatures to hit a record high. The Caribbean had its warmest July on record as well as South America, Africa and Asia. The U.S. had its 11th warmest July on record (in the 129 years of record-keeping).
Locally, we weren’t sweating way too much. Both Beckley and Bluefield’s average temperature was a little bit less than half a degree above average. Lewisburg was the hot spot with the temperature reaching 1.3 degrees above average in July.
