Former aide at New River Intermediate charged with battery and assault of disabled child

A former teacher’s aide at New River Intermediate School has been arrested and charged with battery and assault of a disabled child.

Amanda Gail Hollandsworth allegedly wiped saliva off the floor of a classroom and smeared it on the face of a special needs child. The criminal complaint says that Hollandsworth forcefully grabbed the child.

The incident was initially reported to the West Virginia State Police by New River Intermediate itself, according to Fayette County Schools superintendant Gary Hough.

Hollandsworth has been released on bond.
