A Fayette County man has been convicted of election crime.
Darrell Sharp the second was indicted last May for unlawful voter registration and illegal voting. According to Secretary of State Mac Warner, he attempted to vote while on parole for a different felony conviction.
In West Virginia, it is illegal to vote while serving a sentence for a felony, even if you are on probation or parole.
Sharp’s vote never counted… as it was rejected by the Fayette County Board of Canvassers. He also tried to register to vote several months later.
Sharp was convicted of a misdemeanor charge of illegal voter registration and sentenced to a year in jail and a $1000 dollar fine.
There have been four convictions of election law violations in West Virginia this year.
