Freshmen students at Concord University will set aside some of their Saturdays in September to give back to the community.
The Bonner Scholars and the Center for Academic and Career Development are running a service program through a course that helps students adjust to life in college.
“What sets Concord apart from other universities with similar initiatives is that our students are participating in wide-ranging community engagement at the start of their academic journey as part of their curriculum,” Jacob Abrams, chief organizational development and success officer, said. “It demonstrates Concord’s continuing support for the communities we serve both near and far. We could not be prouder of the positive impacts our students are already having.”
Students will work on various projects, including making dog leashes and working to ease world hunger.
The Bonner Scholars program is a national program that funds service-based scholarships at schools across the country.
