CDC issues new warning regarding contaminated cantaloupe

Oak Hill, WV (WOAY)  – The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is issuing a new warning as cantaloupes contaminated with salmonella continue to sicken people nationwide.

On Thursday, the CDC advised consumers against eating pre-cut cantaloupe if they do not know what brand the product is sold under.

This comes as federal regulators recall several whole and pre-cut cantaloupe product varieties.

They include those sold at retail chains such as Kwik Trip, Kroger, Trader Joe’s, Sprouts Farmers Market, and Aldi.

Health officials nationwide have reported 117 cases of salmonella in 34 states, over 60 hospitalizations, and two deaths.

The CDC advises anyone with recalled fruit products to throw them away or return the product to the store where they purchased them.
