CDC issue warning to consumers amid ongoing cantaloupe salmonella outbreak

Oak Hill, WV (WOAY) – The ongoing salmonella outbreak linked to cantaloupe products is expanding nationwide.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports 302 cases in 42 states as of Friday, December 15.

So far, three people have died in Minnesota and one person in Oregon.

Canada has also reported 153 cases with six deaths, according to the CDCC and the Public Health Agency of Canada.

Malichita and Ruby brand whole cantaloupes have been recalled as part of the ongoing salmonella outbreak.

They were sold nationwide at Aldi, Kwik Trip, Kroger, Trader Joe’s, Sprouts, and Racetrac.

The CDC advises consumers not to eat pre-cut cantaloupe if they are unfamiliar with the brand.

Anyone who has any recalled fruit should return them to the store for a refund or throw them away.
