Big Buck photo contest returns to West Virginia, season opens Nov. 20

CHARLESTON, WV (WOAY) – In today’s administrative briefing, Governor Jim Justice reminded West Virginians that rifle season for bucks starts next Monday.

“West Virginia’s buck firearms season is a cherished tradition that spans generations and unites us in our love for the outdoors,” Gov. Justice said. “I want to encourage every hunter, whether you’re a resident or non-resident to get into the woods and enjoy a hunting adventure and experience all of the goodness and beauty of West Virginia.”

Hunters must also buy their license and stamps if they plan to harvest an additional buck by Nov. 19. You can buy them at your license dealer or online here.

He warned West Virginians about the importance of safety as hunters take the woods.

The Big Buck Photo contest is also returning. There are two divisions- one for kids under the age of 18, and one for adults 18 and older.

Prizes include free lifetime hunting licenses and trips to state parks.
