BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – A Beckley woman has pled guilty to stealing 160,000 from the federal government.
Jennifer Douglas now faces up to 10 years in jail, three years of supervised release, and a 250,000 dollar fine. She also has to pay back what she stole.
Douglas is the former Chief Operating Officer of the Citizens Conservation Corps.
The Citizens Conservation Corps, or CCC, used to be a nonprofit organization. Its main source of income was a multi-million contract with the state of West Virginia to run the Courtesy Patrol roadside assistance service. It lost that contract in 2018.
That same year, the CCC obtained over 160,000 dollars from the Park Service to hire two interns to work at the Olmsted Center for Landscape Preservations.
Those interns were never hired. Instead, Douglas told an accountant to shift the money and use it for other purposes.
Douglas also admitted to taking an additional 60,000 dollars from other Park service agreements.
The CEO of CCC, Robert Martin, was also involved in this crime. He pled guilty in January. The CCC has since declared bankruptcy.
