Beckley ARH, Raleigh General Hospital and others partner for Coalfields Community Health Fair

Raleigh General Hospital has partnered with Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital, other agencies (Quality Insights and Beckley Partnership for Community Health) across the area that provide home health and durable medical equipment (DME) services, and their own health department next door for the upcoming Coalfields Community Health Fair.

It takes place on Wednesday, Oct. 4 from 9am-1pm at the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center.

“To let the community know the services that are available to them, education that they might not be aware of and to bring it all together — and get us back out into the community because COVID put such a halt on everything,” said case management director Tammy Hall-Richardson.

It’s essential to have an event like this because they serve a population that is very rural.

“We know that we serve a population where many of our patients have trouble accessing these services or may not be aware of them,” Hall-Richardson said.

Those who attend can expect to encounter a variety of options — from a blood drive with the Red Cross…

“A dermatology office doing free skin screenings, we’re gonna have CPR, medical power of attorneys, living wills,” said the case management director. “It’s just a hodgepodge of everything that the area has to offer.”

Tammy hopes people come away with education that is pertinent to their health and see that Raleigh General is there for them in times of sickness and in health.

This is where the case management director grew up, and she says Raleigh General is important to her.

“A lot of people in this area think that they have to go to Charleston or Morgantown to get quality healthcare. They can get it right here at Raleigh General.”
