GHENT, WV (WOAY) – The YMCA of Southern West Virginia is one step closer to starting construction on their new sports complex; thanks in part to a big donation.
Earlier this afternoon at Weathered Ground Brewery, The YMCA was presented with a 100,000 dollar check from the Kelly Family Foundation. The money going towards the YMCA’s Capital Campaign, which hopes to raise 4 million dollars locally for the new sports complex.
“The Kelly Family Foundation has really stepped up here, kinda come to the front of the line here, and said hey we need this for our community. We know this is going to be a gathering place for our families, our children, and a place to develop relationships skills that they’ll carry for the rest of their lives. They believe in the YMCA and they’re getting their donations in now,” said YMCA CEO Director Jay Rist
Rist adds that if everything goes according to plan, construction could begin as early as the first 6-months of 2019, and then about 18-months to finish.
