Wyoming County Man Prompts Police Standoff After Threatening To Kill His Family

PINEVILLE, WV (WOAY) –  A Wyoming County man is in jail after an altercation with family turns violent and leads to a standoff with police.

According to court documents, Wyoming County Deputies responded to a domestic on Tuesday, September 4, 2018,  where a male stated he would shoot anyone who comes to his home.  When Deputies arrived they could hear a male, Leslie Beverly, 68-years-old,  inside the house making threats toward police and his wife.

The wife was taken out of the home and to a safe location up the road.  Deputies attempted to get Beverly to exit the house but he pointed a shotgun out the door, threatening to kill them.   After some time, Beverly ended up dropping the gun on the ground and stepped outside with his hands on his head.  Beverly refused to cooperate and deputies had to deploy their taser on him.

After interviewing witnesses, Beverly started verbally arguing with family members and put his hands on one of the victims around her face and neck.  He grabbed the victim by the shirt and left ear, pushed the wife down into a chair, then grabbed the victim by the finger and tried to break it.

Beverly is charged with 2 counts of wanton endangerment, 2 counts of domestic battery, 2 counts of brandishing, 2 counts of obstructing, and strangulation.  He is being held in the Southern Regional Jail under a 15,000 dollar bond.
