WVSSAC announces attendance guidelines for fall sports

WOAY – The WVSSAC announced its decision regarding fan attendance for fall sports events for the 2020-21 school year.

The guidelines will be relative to the color-coding system used for students returning to schools. Teams in counties that are designated “orange” will be able to hold practices, but won’t be allowed to compete in regular season competition. If a county is “red,” all teams in that county must stop practices and games until the county returns to yellow.

For all fall sports (football, soccer, volleyball, golf, cross country, cheer), green means only immediate household members of athletes and coaches would be able to attend games. Yellow means only athletes’ parents and coaches’ spouses could attend, with no siblings.

Masks would be mandatory for cheer and volleyball attendees, and strongly encouraged for additional sports if social distancing cannot be maintained. Schools are also being advised to allow for separate entrances and restrooms for home and visiting spectators.

WVSSAC officials say the guidelines will be revisited after week 2.
