WV State Trooper nabs robbery suspect after half-mile chase through woods

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) — Cpl M.S. Horton was in the right place at the right time early this morning.

The West Virginia State Trooper heard on his radio that the Beckley Police Department was looking for a man who robbed the Little General Store on Robert C. Byrd Dr.

After stopping by the store, he decided to drive down nearby Maxwell Hill Road, according to the Bluefield Daily Telegraph.

As luck would have it, he spotted the robbery suspect, Clarence Curry, a few minutes later.

Horton says Curry was walking along the edge of the woods.

When Trooper Horton pulled up, he says Curry darted off into the woods.

Horton says he had to chase Curry at least half-a-mile through the woods before he caught him.

Curry had no weapons, but Horton did find he had cigarettes and money.

Curry is in the Southern Regional Jail.
