WV Public Broadcasting Exec Says Layoffs Planned

CHARLESTON–  West Virginia Public Broadcasting’s executive director says 15 employees are expected to be laid off by the end of the month.

The Charleston Gazette-Mail reports Scott Finn told the House Finance Committee on Wednesday the layoffs will occur as West Virginia Public Broadcasting anticipates a partial or total elimination of its state appropriations.

Finn says the Educational Broadcasting Authority is scheduled to meet March 15 to approve eliminating 20 full-time positions at Public Broadcasting. Finn says five of the 20 positions are currently vacant.

Gov. Jim Justice has proposed the elimination of Public Broadcasting’s $4.6 million state appropriation, which amounts to nearly half of its total annual operating budget.
