Beckley, WV (WOAY) – The West Virginia Miners won their first game of the 2018 season Thursday by taking the series finale over Kokomo, 9-7.
The Miners never trailed in the contest, though the Jackrabbits would put together multiple rallies, tying the game at 5-5 in the 4th, and then 6-6 two innings later.
Logan Roberts hit two solo home runs, and finished the game batting 3-4 with four RBI and three runs scored. Bryson Wallet and Colby Johnson also hit solo home runs in the early innings. Four Miners pitchers combined for eight strikeouts, with Ian Ellis recording the win.
Friday is an off day for the Miners, who return to play this weekend with two home games against the Butler BlueSox.
