WV Junior Amateur begins at Glade Springs

DANIELS, WV (WOAY) – The busy summer of golf in Southern West Virginia continued Tuesday with the first round of the 2020 West Virginia Junior Amateur.

Defending boys champion Todd Duncan picked up where he left off from last year, posting a four-under round of 68 on the Resort at Glade Springs’ Cobb course, his home course. It’s the latest performance in an already-notable summer for Duncan; he won the Junior Match Play title earlier in June, and was the low area golfer last week at the West Virginia Open, tying for 16th. He leads the Boys 15-18 division at the halfway point of the Junior Amateur.

Oceana’s Kerri-Anne Cook was the top area girls golfer on the first day, posting a round of 80. She trails only Hurricane’s Savannah Hawkins, who birdied the 18th hole to post a first-round score of 73, leading the Girls 15-18 division.

The final round will occur Wednesday in Daniels.
