Wintry Week Ahead; Pattern Change On The Horizon

Anything that appears wet on secondary roads and parking lots will become a sheet of ice tonight.

TEMPERATURES: Black ice development is expected overnight thanks to clear skies, a light wind and snowpack in place (except the eastern Greenbrier Valley). Temperatures will stay in the 20s this week, except for Wednesday with low 40s and a breezy southwest wind. We expect Sunday and Monday to recover well into the 40s and then colder 30s likely Tuesday and Wednesday, December 10-11 before a sustainable warming trend commences.

SNOW: Snow showers will produce a dusting of accumulation on the heels of a cold front early Tuesday and then again Thursday and possibly Saturday afternoon. Total snow amount this week of about 1 inch; likely 4-6 inches in western Pocahontas County. The next snow opportunity likely is Tuesday into Wednesday, December 10-11 before a warming trend commences. This warming trend will likely stay with us for a few weeks.

WIND: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will be brisk with gusts to 20-25 mph but Thursday holds promise for the most gusty day with 35 mph gusts in a front’s wake.
