West Virginia (WOAY)- West Virginia’s Muzzleloader season kicks off Monday, December 16 until Sunday, December 22, offering hunters an additional chance to bag a deer.
This season provides a unique opportunity for those seeking a more traditional hunting experience.
According to the regulations, antlered deer are fair game in counties with buck firearms seasons, while both sexes are legal in areas with class N or NN antlerless seasons.
However, it’s important to note that Logan, McDowell, Mingo, and Wyoming counties are off-limits for all firearm deer hunting during this season.
In some counties, such as Greenbrier and Monroe, hunters need to bag an antlerless deer before going for a second antlered deer.
As of the start of the 2024 deer season, hunters can harvest no more than two antlered bucks during the regular season and the 2025 mountaineer heritage season combined.
Since safety is paramount, all hunters need to wear at least 400 square inches of blaze orange to prevent any accidents.
Hunters participating in this season can use single-shot muzzleloading pistols or rifles with a bore diameter of .38 or larger.
