WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Widespread record heat in the Midwest will be on our doorstep Wednesday and Halloween Day.
RAIN: Less than 0.25″ of rain is expected early Friday in advance of a cold front. Dry weather will resume by Noon and carry on through the high school football games. No rain is then expected through early next week. The weather service will issue either a Special Weather Statement or Red Flag Warning Wednesday and Thursday for the high fire danger. Don’t burn brush during the day and properly discard of cigars and cigarettes.
TEMPERATURES: Temperatures will warm to 80 degrees the next two days, only dropping back to the upper 60s for Trick-or-Treat Thursday evening. Friday will be back into the 60s with mid to upper 70s returning Sunday into early next week. Overnight temperatures will be cooler in the Greenbrier Valley (Lewisburg, White Sulphur Springs) than the Route 19 corridor each morning this week thanks to a strong low-level inversion trapping the cooler air in the valleys.
OUTLOOK INTO MID-NOVEMBER: A recurving tropical system in the West Pacific that will transition to a strong low pressure south of Alaska’s Aleutian Islands will be the catalyst for a shift in the jet stream that will promote 2-3 days of seasonable temperatures around November 8-10 and perhaps snow flurries in Pocahontas County. Otherwise, temperatures will stay warmer than average. Rainfall will trend below-average as well.
