Walmart recalls magnetic balls following CPSC warnings of choking and injury hazards

Oak Hill, WV (CNN) – Walmart is recalling approximately 4200 toy kits with metal balls over concerns they could cause lethal injuries to small children.

Walmart.com exclusively sold the “Relax Five-Millimeter Science Kit” with magnetic balls through Joybuy until April of this year.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warned earlier this month that these magnets are small enough that they could fit down a child’s throat.

They are also magnetically stronger than permitted, meaning that if swallowed, they could attach inside the digestive system and cause potentially life-threatening conditions.

The CPSC says parents should take the balls away from their children immediately.

The agency estimates there were roughly 2500 emergency room visits over magnet ingestions from 2017 through 2021, which resulted in seven deaths.
