UPDATE: WYOMING COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – Three people are in jail after an armed robbery that led to a shooting.
According to court documents, Wyoming County Deputies were dispatched after a man showed up at the STAT EMS office in Pineville with a gunshot wound. On scene, deputies spoke to two other men who were with the victim. They told deputies that the three men were at a home in Raleigh County and contacted Joshua Mitchell to come to pick them up. They stated that Joshua Mitchell, Kayla Dunford, and Jake Tilley showed up at the home to pick them up. Once leaving, they went to Saulsville Mountain, where Mitchell pulled off in a wide spot, acting like he was having trouble with a tire.
Mitchell and Tilley both got out of the car; Tilley opened the back door and struck the victim in the head with a pistol causing the gun to go off. Mitchell and Tilley were telling the victims to give them what they had. One male victim emptied his pockets and ran. Shortly after, Mitchell and another male victim got into an altercation, which led to the victim getting shot in the knee and lower back.
A few days later, Wyoming Deputies were pursuing a Ford Taurus that was headed towards Raleigh County. Raleigh County Deputies observed the speeding vehicle, which fled from both deputies, ensuing a chase. The driver, Joshua Mitchell, lost control and wrecked on Coal River Road into the woods. Mitchell told deputies that he had stolen the vehicle form Indian Creek prior tot he pursuit.
All three suspects fled the scene in a white Chevrolet Silverado.
A passerby picked up the three victims and transported them to STAT EMS. One victim was transported to the hospital.
Kayla Dunford was charged with harboring escape/fugitive, conspiracy, and destruction of property, and is in Southern Regional Jail under a 25,000 dollar bond.
Joshua Mitchell was charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, first-degree robbery, and unlawful assault out of Wyoming County. In Raleigh County, he is facing charges of obstructing, fleeing, reckless driving, and receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle. He is in Southern Regional Jail under an 85,000 dollar bond.
Jake Tilley was charged with battery, first-degree robbery, and felony conspiracy. He is in Southern Regional Jail under a 40,500 dollar bond.
